about

This is one of the oldest songs we chose to add to this album. I originally wrote it in the beginning of 2013 to be a strictly acoustic song but ended up liking it and getting such a positive response I decided to bring it to Rebel Radio. Originally recorded and performed as a slower, ballad type song, it appeared on "Merica" that way before I decided to try speeding it up to fit in with the rest of our set a little better and this is the result. During that winter, we were deep in the throes of a serious drought and major cold spell. In addition to that, I was going through the first major reawakening of a feeling I had tried my hardest to avoid for many years, a feeling of love. This terrified me and ultimately led to serious heartache and inadequacy that would only turn out to be a taste of things to come. Love doesn't happen overnight, it is a slow and agonizing process by which we suddenly awake one day to realize it's there, often times way too late. It is not unlike the way the weather gradually changes until one day we realize it's 100+ degrees outside or below freezing and we feel completely unprepared. It touches on themes of small talk and how we always pretend we are fine with things the way they are yet nothing ever remains constant. Some people just up and run away once feelings develop, others over analyze them and miss their chance at the spontaneity of love and still others just act like nothing has changed. Is it better to say everything that you are feeling at the risk of abandonment or bottle it up and hope it goes away? Life is just a series of moments, decisions and consequences and before you know it you are gone, much like the seasons. Make the most of each day and never hold back your feelings or you will live with that regret for the rest of your life.

lyrics

Reservoir's running dry this winter
Riverbeds grow as hard as clay
Staring up at a blue sky needing
A taste of rain on a sunny day
Cold as ice and creating a vortex
Not a drop though the skies are gray
January turned to September
A taste of rain on a sunny day

chorus
But nothing lasts forever
There's bound to be a change
You talk about the weather
But I'm the one who's strange

Feelings change, learn to take for granted
Always best left with things to say
Stay ahead of the pack but you're losing
It's not a race when you run away
Off to look for your next distraction
Growing better at the games you play
Just learn to live with your own decisions
And don't look back when you run away

chorus
Cuz nothing lasts forever
There's bound to be a change
You talk about the weather
But I'm the one who's strange

Once January's over the nights will slowly fade
You'll be long forgotten, I'll be running for the shade

Say goodbye to the last temptation
As the days since the rain pass by
Looking back on a fraction of time like
A drop of rain from a sunny sky
Not a cloud in the sky for a while now
And the pressure is growing high
Holding on to the memories of moments
A drop of rain from a sunny sky

chorus
Cuz nothing lasts forever
There's bound to be a change
You talk about the weather
But I'm the one who's strange

Once January's over the nights will slowly fade
I'll be long forgotten, you'll be running for the shade
